If an organisation is supporting you back into work, a course can be part of that route. JDO is a training partner of UWV, the Dutch employee insurance agency, and we also work with participants who come through their municipality, a Werkcentrum (a Dutch regional employment service), a reintegration agency, an occupational health service or their employer.
Whether that is possible in your case depends on your personal situation, so always speak to your advisor or case worker first. Not sure which organisation that would be? We are happy to help you find out.

They retrained alongside work and family
With a family and a demanding job, I could not travel to a campus every week. Online Guided gave me the freedom to learn whenever it worked at home, with guidance that kept me on track. I now work part time as a make-up artist and set my own hours.
A full on-site course was not realistic for me. Online Guided still allowed me to train professionally alongside my job. After finishing, I started as a beauty consultant, using my product knowledge and make-up techniques every day.

Frequently asked questions
Can I follow a make-up or hairstyling course through UWV?

JDO is a training partner of UWV, the Dutch employee insurance agency. Whether training can be part of your route towards work depends on your personal situation and on the agreements with your UWV advisor. Always discuss it with your advisor first. We are happy to think along afterwards.
I am coming through a municipality or a reintegration agency instead of UWV, is that possible?

Yes, that happens regularly. Alongside UWV, we work with candidates who come through their municipality or social service, a regional Werkcentrum, a reintegration agency, a job coach or career advisor, an occupational health service, or their own employer. What is possible is decided by that organisation, not by JDO. On request we provide a training proposal setting out exactly what the programme covers, how long it takes and what it prepares you for.
Am I on my own during an online course?

No. Online Guided is guided learning. You follow a clear programme, hand in practical assignments and receive personal feedback on them, and there are monthly live JDO Academy Sessions with your educator and fellow students. You learn at home, but never on your own.
Do I need experience to start?

No. The JDO Method guides you step by step from the basics to professional level. Many participants come from a completely different field. Motivation and the willingness to practise matter more than prior knowledge.
How much time does it take per week?

Expect four to six hours a week: watching online lessons, practising and completing assignments. You schedule that yourself within the agreed period, which makes it easier to combine with a reintegration programme, caring responsibilities or a job.
Do I receive a certificate?

Yes, you receive a JDO certificate for your participation. The Make-up Artist Class also ends with a portfolio exam. JDO Academy is CRKBO-registered, which means the courses are exempt from Dutch VAT.
How long do I have access to the learning platform?

You have twelve months of access to the JDO learning platform. Within that period you can watch the modules as often as you like. After twelve months your access ends.
